Josta was a pioneering soft drink introduced by PepsiCo in 1995, notable for being the first energy drink produced by a major beverage corporation in the United States. It featured a unique flavor profile combining cola with guarana, a caffeine-rich plant native to the Amazon basin. The brand was positioned to appeal to a high-energy lifestyle, utilizing a 'panther' logo to symbolize power and agility.
Despite developing a dedicated cult following, PepsiCo discontinued Josta in 1999 to shift focus toward other brand portfolios and emerging energy drink segments. Although it is no longer in active production, it remains a significant touchstone in beverage history as the precursor to the modern energy drink boom. The brand and its intellectual property remain under the complete ownership of PepsiCo.
