British Airways

British Airways (BA) is the flag carrier of the United Kingdom and one of the world's most recognized aviation brands. The airline traces its heritage back to the early days of civil aviation, specifically to the 1919 founding of Aircraft Transport and Travel Limited (AT&T). The modern entity was officially formed in 1974 following the merger of the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) and British European Airways (BEA). After a period as a state-owned enterprise, the airline was privatized in 1987 under the government of Margaret Thatcher.

In 2011, British Airways underwent a major structural change by merging with the Spanish carrier Iberia to form the International Airlines Group (IAG). While British Airways remains a distinct brand with its headquarters at Waterside near London Heathrow Airport, it is now a subsidiary of this Anglo-Spanish multinational holding company. As of 2026, IAG continues to serve as the ultimate owner, managing a portfolio that includes other major carriers like Aer Lingus and Vueling.

Regarding manufacturing, British Airways does not produce goods in the traditional sense but operates a diverse fleet of aircraft manufactured by global leaders such as Airbus (primarily in France, Germany, and the UK) and Boeing (United States). Maintenance and engineering services are conducted at various specialized facilities, including major hubs in Cardiff and London.
