Planet Internet was one of the pioneering internet service providers in the Netherlands, launched in 1995. Originally established by the Dutch national telecommunications company KPN, it played a crucial role in bringing the world wide web to Dutch households through dial-up and later broadband connections. Throughout its history, Planet Internet was known for its portal services and specialized content offerings, catering primarily to the consumer market in the Benelux region.
Over the years, as the telecommunications market consolidated, KPN decided to simplify its brand portfolio. In 2008, the Planet Internet brand was officially retired, and its user base was integrated into the main KPN brand. Today, while the brand name no longer exists as an active commercial entity, its legacy remains a part of KPN's digital history. KPN continues to be the ultimate owner of the technology and infrastructure that once supported the Planet Internet service, maintaining its position as the leading telecommunications provider in the Netherlands.
