VLC Media Player

VLC Media Player is a free and open-source, portable, cross-platform media player software and streaming media server. The project was originally started by students at the École Centrale Paris in France. It is known for its iconic traffic cone logo and its ability to play nearly all multimedia file formats.

Because VLC is an open-source project, its 'manufacturing' or development happens globally through a network of volunteer contributors rather than in a single factory. It is managed by VideoLAN, a non-profit organization that ensures the software remains free and accessible to all users without corporate ownership or commercial interests.
