Kiehl's Desde 1851 is an American cosmetics brand that began as a single homeopathic pharmacy in Manhattan's East Village at Third Avenue and 13th Street. Founded by John Kiehl, the brand was later purchased by his apprentice, Irving Morse, who was instrumental in developing many of the core products still sold today. For over a century, the brand focused on apothecary-style service and word-of-mouth marketing, building a reputation for high-quality, scientifically grounded skincare.
In 2000, the brand was acquired by L'Oréal to help meet the growing global demand for premium skincare. While Kiehl's retains its New York heritage and remains headquartered there, its manufacturing footprint has expanded to include L'Oréal's global production facilities, although a significant portion of its flagship products continue to be manufactured in the United States. Today, the brand is a major cornerstone of L'Oréal's Luxe division, sold in boutique stores and high-end department stores worldwide.
