Founded by Amancio Ortega and Rosalía Mera in 1975, Inditex (Industria de Diseño Textil, S.A.) has grown from a single Zara storefront in A Coruña, Spain, into the world's largest fashion retail group. Known for its 'fast fashion' business model, the brand excels at rapidly moving designs from the catwalk to store shelves, often within a matter of weeks.
While headquartered in Arteixo, Spain, the company utilizes a sophisticated logistics and manufacturing network. Roughly half of its production is 'proximate manufacturing' occurring in Spain, Portugal, Morocco, and Turkey, allowing for extreme agility. The remaining production is outsourced to global hubs in Asia and South America. Ownership remains largely within the family, with Amancio Ortega maintaining a majority stake through his investment vehicle, Pontegadea, and his daughter Marta Ortega Pérez serving as the Chairperson.
