Pavlidis is one of the most historic and beloved brands in Greece, famous for its 'Health' chocolate (Ygeias). Founded in Athens in 1841 by Spyridon Pavlidis, the brand opened the first confectionery workshop in Greece. Its iconic dark chocolate bar, wrapped in its signature blue packaging, has been a staple of the Greek market for over 150 years, establishing a reputation for quality and tradition that spans generations.
Despite its transition to international ownership, Pavlidis chocolate continues to be synonymous with Greek manufacturing. The primary production facility remains located in the Petralona district of Athens. This local production is a critical element of the brand's identity, ensuring that the flavor profile and traditional recipes remain consistent with the expectations of the Greek consumer base.
The brand's ownership has evolved from a family-run enterprise to being part of a global confectionery powerhouse. In 1988, Pavlidis was acquired by Jacobs Suchard, which later became part of Kraft Foods. Following the corporate spin-off in 2012, Pavlidis became a member of the Mondelēz International family. Today, Mondelēz manages the brand as a key local jewel within its extensive portfolio of snacks and sweets, maintaining the brand's heritage while providing the logistical support of a multinational corporation.
