Zizzi is a prominent Italian-inspired casual dining chain founded in 1999 by brothers Adam and Sam Kaye, who also founded the ASK Italian brand. The first Zizzi location opened in Chiswick, London, and since then, the brand has grown into a significant fixture of the British high street, known for its signature open-style pizza ovens and individually designed restaurant interiors.
Historically, the brand has transitioned through several ownership structures. It was initially part of the Gondola Group before being acquired by the private equity firm Bridgepoint in 2015 for approximately £250 million. In July 2020, following the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the brand was acquired by TowerBrook Capital Partners as part of a restructuring of the Azzurri Group.
Today, Zizzi operates under the Azzurri Group, a major hospitality investment platform. While primarily a restaurant chain, Zizzi has expanded its presence into the retail market with a range of frozen meals sold in major UK supermarkets. The ultimate owner, TowerBrook Capital Partners, is an international investment firm headquartered in both London and New York, specializing in the consumer and industrial sectors.
