Monteith's Brewing Company is a staple of the New Zealand craft and mainstream beer scene. Originally founded as the Phoenix Brewery in Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island in 1868, it became part of the Monteith's name in 1927 following a merger.
While the brand maintains its historical identity and deep roots in Greymouth, it has undergone significant ownership changes over the decades. It is currently owned by DB Breweries, which is a major player in the New Zealand beverage market. DB Breweries itself is a subsidiary of Heineken N.V., the Dutch multinational brewing giant. Today, Monteith's products are primarily manufactured in New Zealand, catering to both domestic and international markets while leveraging Heineken's global distribution network.
