Immich photo and video management solution

Immich is a high-performance, self-hosted photo and video management solution designed as a privacy-focused alternative to services like Google Photos. Originally created as an open-source project by Alex Tran and a dedicated core team, it has grown into a significant tool within the self-hosting community. The software is licensed under AGPL-3.0 and is maintained by a global community of contributors, meaning its 'manufacturing' or development occurs in a distributed, collaborative environment rather than a single factory.

In early 2024, the Immich core team joined FUTO, an organization based in Austin, Texas, that focuses on developing and funding technology that gives control back to users. This partnership allowed the core developers to work on the project full-time while maintaining the software's open-source integrity. Although FUTO provides financial and administrative support, Immich remains free to use, with optional licenses available for users who wish to financially support the project's ongoing development.
