Vauxhall passenger vehicle

Vauxhall is one of the oldest established vehicle manufacturers and distributors in the United Kingdom. Originally founded in 1857 as a pump and marine engine manufacturer, it began making cars in 1903. For decades, it was a subsidiary of General Motors, during which time it became closely aligned with the German brand Opel, sharing platforms and designs.

In recent years, the ownership has shifted dramatically. In 2017, the PSA Group (Peugeot-Citroen) acquired Vauxhall and Opel, and following a 2021 merger, the brand became part of the global automotive giant Stellantis. While the brand maintains a strong British identity, its vehicle manufacturing is spread across multiple European locations, including the UK plant in Ellesmere Port and Luton, as well as sites in Germany, Spain, and France depending on the specific model.
