Tefal is a French cookware and small appliance manufacturer, best known for creating the non-stick cookware category. The brand was founded in 1956 by Marc Grégoire in Sarcelles, France, after he developed a method to bond PTFE (Teflon) to aluminum pans. The name Tefal is a portmanteau of the words Teflon and Aluminum.
Today, Tefal is a global leader in its category. While the company maintains a significant manufacturing presence in France (notably in Rumilly and Sarcelles), it also operates production facilities in other regions, including China and Vietnam, to serve various international markets. Since 1968, Tefal has been a subsidiary of Groupe SEB, a major French consortium and the world's largest manufacturer of small domestic appliances.
