Branston is a quintessentially British brand that first gained fame with the invention of Branston Pickle in 1922 in the village of Branston, Staffordshire. While the brand was originally created by Crosse & Blackwell, it has changed hands several times over the decades, being owned by Nestlé and later Premier Foods. In 2005, Premier Foods expanded the brand into the competitive baked beans market to challenge the long-standing dominance of other major brands.

In early 2013, the Japanese food giant Mizkan Group acquired the Branston brand as part of its strategic expansion into the UK market. Today, although Mizkan owns the trademark, the production and distribution of Branston's baked beans and pasta ranges are handled under a long-term licensing agreement by Princes Ltd.

Most of the manufacturing occurs within the United Kingdom. For example, Princes operates a major canning facility in Long Sutton, Lincolnshire, and has also utilized its Spalding site for production. The brand continues to be a staple of British cupboards, celebrated for its signature rich and thick tomato sauce.
