Norton is a globally recognized brand in the cybersecurity sector, originally founded in the United States. It was first developed by Peter Norton Computing, which was acquired by Symantec Corporation in 1990. Over the decades, Norton has evolved from simple utility software into a comprehensive security suite offering antivirus, VPN, and identity theft protection.
As a digital product, the software code is developed primarily in the United States and India, but it is distributed globally through cloud-based servers located in multiple countries. In 2019, the enterprise division of Symantec was sold, and the consumer-facing portion of the company (including Norton) was rebranded as NortonLifeLock. Following a major merger in 2022, the brand now sits under the umbrella of Gen Digital Inc., a multinational company dedicated to consumer cyber safety.
