Hasselblad is an iconic Swedish brand synonymous with high-end medium format photography and historical milestones, most notably being the choice for NASA's Apollo moon missions. Founded in 1841 in Gothenburg as a trading company, it transitioned into the photographic sector under Arvid Viktor Hasselblad and eventually became a dedicated camera manufacturer during World War II when Victor Hasselblad was tasked with developing aerial surveillance cameras for the Swedish military.

Today, the brand maintains its headquarters and key assembly operations in Gothenburg, Sweden, where it continues to design and rigorously test its premium digital systems like the X and V lines. However, modern manufacturing and supply chains are global; for instance, many of its lenses have historically been developed in partnership with companies like Fujifilm and Nittoh in Japan.

In early 2017, the Chinese drone and imaging giant DJI acquired a majority stake in Hasselblad. This acquisition has led to deeper integration between Hasselblad's optics and sensor technology and DJI's aerial platforms, while allowing the Swedish brand to leverage DJI's extensive supply chain and technological resources to remain a leader in the luxury professional camera market.
