Fisherman's Friend is a globally recognized brand of strong menthol lozenges, originally developed in 1865 by pharmacist James Lofthouse. The product was first created as a liquid remedy to help deep-sea fishermen in Fleetwood, England, cope with harsh weather conditions and respiratory issues. It was later transformed into the iconic lozenge format to prevent the glass bottles from breaking at sea.

Remarkably, the brand remains a family-owned enterprise, produced exclusively at its original home in Fleetwood, Lancashire, England. The factory in Fleetwood currently produces over 5 billion lozenges annually to supply more than 100 countries. The distinctive packaging, featuring a mid-water side trawler, and the shape of the lozenges (reportedly inspired by the buttons on a dress worn by former director Doreen Lofthouse) have become cultural icons. Despite its global reach, the brand's production has never been outsourced, maintaining a strict connection to its local heritage.
