Alpro is a pioneering European brand specializing in plant-based food and drinks. Founded in Belgium in 1980 by Philippe Vandemoortele, the brand initially focused on soy-based products before expanding into almond, oat, coconut, and hazelnut alternatives. It played a major role in bringing plant-based nutrition into the mainstream across Europe.
Today, Alpro operates multiple manufacturing facilities across Europe to serve its large customer base, with primary production sites located in Belgium, France, and the United Kingdom. This localized production helps the brand manage its carbon footprint while meeting the high demand for vegan and dairy-free options.
Since 2017, Alpro has been part of Danone, following Danone's acquisition of the American company WhiteWave Foods. This move integrated Alpro into Danone's Global Plant-Based division, solidifying its position as a market leader in the healthy and sustainable food sector. The brand continues to innovate with new formulations and sustainable packaging initiatives under the umbrella of its French multinational owner.
