Gallo is an iconic Portuguese brand founded in 1919 by Victor Guedes in Abrantes, Portugal. While primarily famous for its olive oils, the brand also produces a variety of vinegars.
This specific product, Balsamic Vinegar of Modena (Aceto Balsamico di Modena P.G.I.), is manufactured in Italy to comply with the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) regulations, which specify that production must occur in the Modena or Reggio Emilia regions.
Initially a family business, the brand was acquired by the Dutch multinational Unilever in the late 1980s. Since 2011, it has been managed under a joint venture (Gallo Worldwide) between Unilever and Sovena (a Portuguese group), with Unilever holding a major stake. As of 2024 and beyond, it remains under this partnership, maintaining its status as one of the most recognized Portuguese brands globally.
