Gorton's is a pioneering American seafood brand with a history dating back to 1849 in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Originally founded as John Pew & Sons, and later becoming Gorton-Pew Fisheries, it revolutionized the industry with products like 'Gorton's Ready-to-Fry Codfish Cakes' and its iconic 'Gorton's Fisherman' mascot. The brand is a cornerstone of the American frozen food market, known for fish sticks, fillets, and shrimp products.

While the brand maintains deep roots in Massachusetts, its ownership has transitioned through several major corporations. After a period as a subsidiary of General Mills starting in 1968, the brand was eventually acquired by the Japanese conglomerate Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (now Nissui Corporation) in 2001. This acquisition integrated Gorton's into one of the world's largest seafood supply chains.

Today, Gorton's continues to operate out of Gloucester, Massachusetts, where much of its domestic production occurs. However, as part of a global corporation, its manufacturing and sourcing are integrated with international logistics to ensure a consistent supply of seafood for the North American market. The brand remains a leading name in the retail frozen seafood category under Nissui's stewardship.
