The brand was founded in 2007 by Marcia Kilgore, a serial entrepreneur who also established Bliss Spa and Soap & Glory. From its inception, the brand aimed to combine biomechanics with high fashion, collaborating with expert biomechanists to create its signature Microwobbleboard™ midsole technology.

While the brand's design and engineering happen in the United Kingdom, production is outsourced to various specialized manufacturing facilities. These are primarily located across Southeast Asia, including countries like Vietnam, China, and Thailand, to leverage efficient manufacturing scale. FitFlop continues to operate as an independent entity under the guidance of its original founder, maintaining its headquarters in London while distributing products to dozens of countries worldwide.
