Newport is one of the most prominent brands in the tobacco industry, best known for its menthol cigarettes. Launched in 1957 by the Lorillard Tobacco Company, it was originally designed as a high-end menthol cigarette aimed at established smokers. Over the decades, it grew to become the second-best-selling cigarette brand in the United States, maintaining a dominant position in the menthol market.

The manufacturing of Newport cigarettes is primarily centered in the United States, notably at large-scale production facilities in North Carolina. While the brand is quintessentially American in origin and market presence, global supply chains and international variations in tobacco sourcing mean that components may occasionally involve international collaboration, though finished products for the US market remain domestic.

Ownership of the Newport brand underwent a significant shift in 2015 when Reynolds American Inc. acquired the Lorillard Tobacco Company. Subsequently, in 2017, British American Tobacco (BAT) completed a multi-billion dollar acquisition of the remaining stake in Reynolds American it did not already own. As a result, Newport is now a flagship brand under the ultimate ownership of British American Tobacco, headquartered in London, United Kingdom, making it part of one of the largest tobacco portfolios in the world.
