The Bodega Aurrera brand was originally created by the Arango brothers under their company, Almacenes Aurrera, in 1958. Over the decades, the business grew into the most successful retail format in Mexico. Today, it is part of the Walmart de México y Centroamérica portfolio, which is the largest subsidiary of Walmart Inc. outside the United States. While the brand is quintessentially Mexican in identity and manufacturing, its ultimate ownership resides with the American multinational retail corporation Walmart.
