Onkyo is a historic Japanese consumer electronics brand that established a global reputation for high-fidelity audio equipment. Founded in Osaka, Japan, in 1946, the brand has been a cornerstone of the home theater and premium audio market for decades. While originally manufacturing extensively in Japan, modern production has shifted to various locations across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia and Vietnam, to optimize its global supply chain.

Following financial challenges in the early 2020s, the Onkyo home entertainment brand was acquired through a joint venture between Premium Audio Company (a subsidiary of VOXX International) and Sharp Corporation. This acquisition ensures the continuation of Onkyo's legacy in the high-end audio space, with the brand now managed by an American-led conglomerate while retaining its Japanese engineering roots. Today, Onkyo remains a prominent name in the AV receiver and integrated amplifier markets worldwide.
