Sol de Janeiro is a premium beauty and personal care brand that gained global fame for its Brazilian-inspired scents and high-performance body care products. Founded in 2015 by Heela Yang, Marc Capra, and Camila Pierotti, the brand was inspired by the joyful, diverse, and body-positive culture of Brazil. Although the brand's aesthetic and ingredients like Guarana and Cupuacu butter are deeply rooted in Brazilian culture, the brand was established as a New York-based enterprise.
In November 2021, the brand reached a significant milestone when the majority stake was acquired by the L'Occitane Group, a global leader in natural cosmetics. This acquisition allowed Sol de Janeiro to expand its international presence rapidly. To this day, the products are primarily manufactured in the United States to maintain strict quality control standards while sourcing key botanicals from Brazil.
Today, Sol de Janeiro operates as a key subsidiary of the L'Occitane Group. The brand continues to dominate the 'prestige body care' category, leveraging the expansive global retail network and sustainability commitments of its parent company. It remains headquartered in New York City but functions under the strategic umbrella of the L'Occitane Group, headquartered in Geneva and Luxembourg.
