Duracell is a globally recognized leader in the battery industry, famous for its 'Copper Top' design. The brand's history dates back to the early 1920s when scientist Samuel Ruben and manufacturer Philip Rogers Mallory formed a partnership that eventually led to the creation of the Mallory Battery Company. The Duracell brand name was officially introduced in 1964.
Duracell products are manufactured globally to meet international demand. Major production facilities are located in the United States (notably in Tennessee and Connecticut), as well as in Belgium for the European market, and China. Ownership of the brand has changed hands several times, having been owned by Kraft Foods and later Procter & Gamble. In 2016, Berkshire Hathaway, the conglomerate led by Warren Buffett, completed the acquisition of Duracell, making it the current ultimate owner. Under Berkshire Hathaway, Duracell continues to dominate the portable power market through innovation in alkaline, lithium, and rechargeable battery technologies.
