Tropicana is one of the world's most recognized fruit juice brands. Originally founded in 1947 by Anthony T. Rossi in Bradenton, Florida, the company pioneered the process of flash pasteurization for orange juice, allowing it to be shipped fresh rather than frozen. Success led to its acquisition by PepsiCo in 1998, which significantly expanded its global reach.
In recent years, the brand's ownership structure has evolved. In 2021, PepsiCo entered into an agreement to sell a majority stake in Tropicana and other juice brands to PAI Partners, a private equity firm. This resulted in the creation of Tropicana Brands Group, a joint venture where PAI Partners holds the majority stake and PepsiCo retains a 39% minority interest. Manufacturing occurs in numerous regions worldwide to serve local markets, often utilizing local bottling partners like Varun Beverages in regions such as India.
