Fever-Tree was founded in London in 2004 by Charles Rolls and Tim Warrillow, who identified a significant quality gap in the mixer market while the premium spirits industry was booming. Their flagship product, Indian Tonic Water, was launched in 2005 after an extensive search for the highest-quality natural quinine in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The name 'Fever-Tree' is a colloquialism for the cinchona tree, from which quinine is derived.

The company operates an 'asset-light' business model, meaning it does not own its own large-scale bottling plants but instead outsources production to specialized partners. While its primary manufacturing base remains in the United Kingdom and Europe, it has significantly expanded its global footprint. In February 2025, Fever-Tree entered a major partnership with Molson Coors for co-manufactured production and distribution in the United States to satisfy North American demand domestically and reduce shipping costs and tariffs.

Fevertree Drinks plc is an independent public company listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE: FEVR). Unlike many competitors owned by multinational conglomerates like Coca-Cola or PepsiCo, Fever-Tree has maintained its independence through 2026. Its ownership is primarily held by large institutional investors, though its co-founder Tim Warrillow remains a key executive and shareholder.
