Sabra Roasted Red Pepper Hummus is a leading product in the refrigerated dip category, particularly known for its dominant market position in North America. The brand was originally founded in 1986 in Queens, New York, as Sabra-Blue & White Foods. Over the decades, it transformed from a small local operation into the top-selling hummus brand in the United States.
The product is primarily manufactured at Sabra's state-of-the-art facility in Chesterfield County, Virginia. This facility is recognized as the largest hummus-making plant in the world and has received LEED Gold and Silver certifications for its sustainable design. The chickpeas used in the hummus are sourced from family-owned farms in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.
Ownership of the brand has seen significant shifts. After being acquired by the Israeli food manufacturer Strauss Group in 2005, it became a 50/50 joint venture between Strauss and PepsiCo in 2008. Most recently, at the end of 2024, PepsiCo reached an agreement to acquire the remaining 50% stake from Strauss Group, making it the ultimate owner of the brand. This move allows PepsiCo to fully integrate Sabra into its global snacks and "better-for-you" food portfolio.
