Winston is a globally recognized cigarette brand with a history dating back to 1954 in the United States. Named after Winston-Salem, North Carolina, it was originally launched by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. The brand gained immense popularity for being one of the first filter-tipped cigarettes marketed in the United States, becoming the top-selling cigarette brand in the world by the mid-1960s.
In modern times, the international rights to the Winston brand (outside of the United States) were acquired by Japan Tobacco International (JTI). The product shown is specifically marketed for the Romanian market, as evidenced by the local health warnings. In Romania, Winston products are manufactured at the JTI factory in Bucharest, which serves as a major hub for the region.
Today, while ITG Brands (a subsidiary of Imperial Brands) manages Winston within the United States, Japan Tobacco Inc. remains the ultimate global owner for all international distributions. The company operates a vast network of manufacturing plants across Europe and Asia to maintain its position as a leading premium tobacco brand.
