Azuga is a historical Romanian beer brand with deep roots in the Prahova Valley, dating back to 1870 when the brewery was founded by Grundt in the town of Azuga. It became one of the most prestigious beers in the Kingdom of Romania, often associated with the royal court. The brand carries a legacy of traditional brewing methods, which is reflected in its current 'Nepasteurizată' (unpasteurized) craft-style offerings like the Märzen variety shown here.
While the original factory in Azuga closed its doors years ago, the brand was revitalized and is now part of the international portfolio of Ursus Breweries. The production currently takes place in Romania, leveraging modern facilities to recreate traditional recipes. Since 2017, the ultimate ownership of the brand lies with the Japanese conglomerate Asahi Group Holdings, which acquired the Central and Eastern European businesses of SABMiller.
