Tempo is a renowned brand of paper handkerchiefs and facial tissues, originally founded in Germany in 1929 by the company Vereinigte Papierwerke AG in Nuremberg. It became the first brand to produce disposable paper handkerchiefs, which eventually became a household name across Europe.
Over the decades, the brand underwent several ownership changes. It was acquired by the consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble in 2002, but due to anti-trust regulations, it was eventually sold to the Swedish hygiene and health company SCA in 2007. SCA later spun off its hygiene operations into a separate entity known as Essity. Today, Essity remains the ultimate owner of Tempo, maintaining its position as a market leader in multiple European and Asian markets.
Manufacturing takes place in various specialized paper mills across Europe (such as Germany and Italy) and North Africa depending on the specific product line and regional market needs. The brand continues to focus on softness and strength, as seen in the 'soft & sensitive' variant designed for delicate skin.
