Etnies is a prominent footwear brand originally launched in 1986 under the name Etnics. It was founded in France but gained global recognition and its current identity after professional skateboarder Pierre André Sénizergues took leadership and brought it to the United States. It is widely recognized for launching the first pro model skateboard shoe, the Natas, in the late 1980s.
Today, Etnies is part of the Sole Technology, Inc. portfolio, a privately held conglomerate of action sports brands. While the brand design and corporate headquarters are based in Lake Forest, California, manufacturing is outsourced to various global locations including China, Vietnam, and other Southeast Asian countries to manage production scales and specialized materials.
