M-Audio is one of the most recognized names in the home studio and music production industry. Originally founded as Midiman in the United States, the brand revolutionized the accessibility of digital music creation by providing affordable MIDI interfaces and studio-quality hardware for independent creators.
Over the decades, the brand underwent significant corporate transitions. It was famously acquired by Avid Technology (the creators of Pro Tools) in 2004, which further integrated the hardware into professional recording ecosystems. However, in 2012, Avid sold its consumer-facing lines, leading M-Audio to become a cornerstone of the inMusic Brands family. This move positioned the brand alongside other legendary names like Akai Professional and Alesis.
While the research, design, and engineering of M-Audio products are often driven by international teams based in the United States and the United Kingdom, the physical manufacturing is primarily centered in China to maintain competitive pricing for the consumer market. Today, M-Audio continues to be a leading provider of keyboards, monitors, and audio interfaces for musicians globally.
