JOZO is a historic salt brand founded in 1929 in the Netherlands. The name 'JOZO' is an abbreviation for 'JOodium ZOut' (Iodized Salt), as the brand was a pioneer in adding iodine to salt to combat thyroid conditions. Although the salt itself, such as this Himalaya variant, is sourced from specific regions (like the Khewra salt mine in Pakistan), the processing and packaging take place in the Netherlands.
The brand is owned by Nouryon (formerly AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals), a global leader in specialty chemicals. Nouryon operates significant salt production facilities in Hengelo and Delfzijl, making JOZO one of the most recognizable household brands in the Dutch and Scandinavian markets. Over the decades, the brand has expanded its portfolio from basic table salt to gourmet varieties including sea salt and Himalayan salt.
