The brand's origin dates back to 1893, when Caleb Bradham created 'Brad's Drink' in New Bern, North Carolina, which was later renamed Pepsi-Cola in 1898.

Today, the brand is owned by PepsiCo, Inc., a major American multinational food, snack, and beverage corporation. Manufacturing is highly decentralized; the syrup concentrate is made centrally but bottled by various licensed franchises and subsidiaries worldwide. In the Romanian market, the product is primarily produced and distributed by Quadrant Amroq Beverages, the local PepsiCo bottling partner. PepsiCo continues to be a global leader in the beverage industry, headquartered in Purchase, New York.
