Nike is a globally recognized American multinational corporation that is engaged in the design, development, manufacturing, and worldwide marketing and sales of footwear, apparel, equipment, accessories, and services.
Originally founded in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, the company officially became Nike, Inc. in 1971, named after the Greek goddess of victory. The iconic 'Swoosh' logo, visible on the cap, was created by Carolyn Davidson and has since become one of the most valuable brand marks in history.
While headquartered in Oregon, USA, Nike does not own the factories where its products are made. Instead, manufacturing is outsourced to independent contract manufacturers across several countries, primarily in Asia, including Vietnam, China, and Indonesia. Ownership remains with Nike, Inc., which is a publicly traded entity on the New York Stock Exchange.
