Alpro is a pioneering European brand specializing in plant-based foods and beverages. Founded in 1980 in Belgium, it was originally established as a subsidiary of the Vandemoortele Groep. The brand gained significant traction by offering soy-based alternatives and later expanded its portfolio to include almond, hazelnut, rice, and oat products. Its headquarters remain in Ghent, Belgium.

Manufacturing for Alpro products is distributed across several key facilities in Europe to serve various markets. The primary production sites are located in Wevelgem (Belgium), Issenheim (France), and Kettering (United Kingdom). This strategic distribution allows the brand to maintain a strong presence across more than 50 countries, with a primary focus on the European market.

Ownership of the brand has changed hands through major corporate acquisitions. In 2009, it was sold to the American company Dean Foods, and later became part of WhiteWave Foods when that unit was spun off. In 2017, the French multinational food-products corporation Danone acquired WhiteWave Foods, bringing Alpro under its umbrella.
