Arm of Kannon is a dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Masakazu Yamaguchi. Originally serialized in Japan in the late 1990s, the series was introduced to English-speaking audiences by TOKYOPOP, a major distributor and publisher of manga and graphic novels in North America and Europe. These specific printed editions were produced for the Western market.
TOKYOPOP was founded in Los Angeles and played a pivotal role in the 'manga boom' of the early 2000s by introducing the unflipped (right-to-left) format to Western readers. While the creative content originates from Japan, the brand and physical distribution of these English volumes are managed by TOKYOPOP. The company remains a privately held entity under the leadership of its founder, Stu Levy, with headquarters now maintaining a significant presence in Hamburg, Germany, and the United States.
