The Akai MPC Live 3 is a professional-grade music production center, part of a legendary line of samplers and sequencers that shaped the history of hip-hop and electronic music. The MPC series was originally conceptualized in the 1980s through a collaboration between the Japanese company Akai and American engineer Roger Linn, creating a tactile workflow that remains the industry standard.
Today, the manufacturing of these devices takes place primarily in China to leverage advanced electronics assembly capabilities. While the hardware is produced in Asia, the software development and engineering design are heavily influenced by teams in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Ownership of the Akai Professional brand has transitioned through several corporate hands. It is currently a flagship brand of inMusic Brands, a global conglomerate headquartered in the United States. Under inMusic, the MPC line has seen a modern resurgence, integrating vintage sampling workflows with contemporary touchscreen technology and standalone processing power.
