Sabritas is the quintessential snack brand of Mexico, founded in 1943 by Pedro Marcos Noriega as 'Golosinas y Productos Selectos' in Mexico City. The brand name itself is a portmanteau of 'Sabrosas y Fritas' (tasty and fried). Since its inception, the brand has become a cultural icon, synonymous with Mexican street snacks and social gatherings.
In 1966, Sabritas was acquired by the American multinational company PepsiCo, following the merger of Frito-Lay and Pepsi-Cola. Today, it serves as the Mexican equivalent of the Frito-Lay brand found in the United States. While most Sabritas products sold in Mexico are manufactured domestically using local Mexican potatoes, the brand's immense popularity has led to limited production and distribution in other North American markets to satisfy the nostalgic demand of the Mexican diaspora.
