Discover where a brand or product originates
Lentils are one of the world's oldest cultivated crops, with their origins trace back to the Near East and Mediterranean regions. As a staple pulse, they are widely recognized for their high protein and fiber content. Today, they are grown globally as a generic agricultural commodity rather than a brand-exclusive product.
Canada is currently the world's largest producer and exporter of lentils, particularly in the Saskatchewan province. Other major producers include India, Australia, Turkey, and the United States. Many retail brands source their lentils from these major agricultural hubs and package them under private labels or household food brands.
While various companies like Goya, Bob’s Red Mill, or supermarket brands sell lentils, the 'brand origin' for the legume itself is ancient and lacks a single corporate inventor. The product is typically sold as a raw agricultural ingredient with ownership tied to the various global food conglomerates or local distributors that package and market them.
