Tsingtao is one of China's most historic and internationally recognized beer brands. It was founded in 1903 in the city of Qingdao by German and British settlers as the Germania-Brauerei. This heritage is still reflected in its use of German-style brewing techniques and equipment.
The brand is characterized by its crisp, refreshing flavor, often brewed with high-quality spring water from the Laoshan mountain region and a blend of rice and barley. While it has undergone various ownership changes throughout Chinese history—including periods of state ownership—it is currently managed by the Tsingtao Brewery Company Limited.
Today, Tsingtao is the second-largest brewery in China and exports its premium lager to over 100 countries worldwide. It remains a flagship brand representing Chinese industry on the global stage, with the municipal government of Qingdao and various institutional investors holding significant stakes in the company.
