Aegean Airlines is the flag carrier of Greece and the country's largest airline by total number of passengers carried, by number of destinations served and by fleet size. Founded in 1987 as Aegean Aviation, it has grown from a VIP/business operator to a major regional carrier and a member of the Star Alliance network.
The airline operates a significant fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft, primarily manufactured in France and Germany. Headquartered in Kifisia, Athens, the company maintains its primary hub at Athens International Airport and provides a wide network of international and domestic flight services.
Ownership of Aegean remains largely under Greek control, specifically through the Vassilakis Group. Since its merger with Olympic Air in 2013, Aegean has solidified its position as the dominant aviation provider in the Hellenic region, maintaining its cultural identity while operating to international safety and service standards.
