The Ford Fiesta is one of the most iconic nameplates in automotive history, spanning seven generations from its debut in 1976 until the end of its internal combustion engine (ICE) production in July 2023. Originally developed under the code name 'Project Bobcat,' the car was a strategic move by Ford to enter the burgeoning supermini market. It was the brand's first globally successful front-wheel-drive model and was famously named by Henry Ford II to reflect its manufacturing ties to Spain and the free-spirited nature of the word 'Fiesta.'

Throughout its lifespan, the Fiesta was a truly global vehicle, manufactured in numerous countries including Germany (Cologne), Spain (Valencia), the United Kingdom (Dagenham), Mexico, Brazil, China, India, and Thailand. For decades, it was a perennial best-seller, particularly in the UK and Europe, known for its balance of affordability, compact dimensions, and engaging driving dynamics.

In July 2023, Ford officially ceased production of the Fiesta at its Cologne facility to repurpose the plant for high-volume electric vehicle (EV) production. While the traditional hatchback has been retired, Ford has signaled a potential return of the Fiesta nameplate around 2028 as a fully electric vehicle, potentially developed in partnership with Renault to leverage shared EV platforms. Currently, the Ford brand remains under the ultimate ownership of the Ford Motor Company, headquartered in the United States.
