Yakult is a world-renowned probiotic dairy product that originated in Japan. It was developed in 1930 by Dr. Minoru Shirota, a scientist at Kyoto University, who successfully isolated and cultured the Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain. The brand was officially launched in 1935 as a health drink to improve digestive health and immunity.
Today, the brand is owned by Yakult Honsha Co., Ltd., a major Japanese corporation that manages global production and distribution. While the brand is Japanese, Yakult maintains a highly localized production model with over 30 production facilities worldwide. In Indonesia, the product seen in the image is manufactured by PT Yakult Indonesia Persada at their facilities in Sukabumi or Mojokerto to serve the domestic market. The company is known for its unique distribution system, including the famous 'Yakult Ladies' who deliver the product directly to consumers.
