Ghirardelli is one of America's oldest and most iconic chocolate brands, founded in 1852 by Italian chocolatier Domenico Ghirardelli in San Francisco, California. The brand has a long-standing reputation for quality, maintaining a 'bean-to-bar' production process that oversees every step of chocolate making, from roasting the cocoa beans to finishing the product.
While the brand holds a deep American heritage, it was acquired by the Swiss chocolate manufacturer Lindt & Sprüngli in 1998. Today, Ghirardelli operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lindt but remains headquartered in San Leandro, California. Most of its production continues to take place in the United States to serve the North American market, maintaining the legacy established over 170 years ago.
