Sesame Place is a themed entertainment destination based on the beloved children's educational television program, Sesame Street. Originally opened in 1980 in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, the park was founded as a joint venture between Sesame Workshop (formerly Children's Television Workshop) and the Busch Entertainment Corporation. It provides an immersive experience where families can interact with iconic characters like Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Big Bird.
The park's operations and physical assets are managed by United Parks & Resorts (formerly SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc.), which holds the exclusive license for Sesame Street themed parks in the United States. While the intellectual property—the characters and educational mission—remains with the nonprofit Sesame Workshop, the theme park itself is a massive commercial operation involving rides, water attractions, and live shows.
Today, the brand has expanded with a second location in San Diego, California. The park remains a major fixture in the American family entertainment industry, headquartered in Orlando, Florida, under its ultimate corporate parent, United Parks & Resorts.
