Weleda is a pioneer in certified natural skincare and anthroposophic pharmaceuticals. The brand was founded in 1921 by Rudolf Steiner, Ita Wegman, and Oscar Schmiedel, establishing its roots in Switzerland based on a philosophy of harmonizing humans with nature.
Today, Weleda remains largely independent from global beauty conglomerates, with its majority shares held by the General Anthroposophical Society and the Klinik Arlesheim. While the brand is headquarted in Arlesheim, Switzerland, it maintains significant manufacturing facilities in Germany and France. Most of its homeopathic medicines and natural cosmetics sold in Europe are produced in Gmünd, Germany, which is the brand's largest production site.
