Systane is a globally recognized brand specializing in dry eye relief and eye lubrication products. The brand was originally developed by Alcon, a company founded in Fort Worth, Texas, USA in 1945 by pharmacists Robert Alexander and William Conner. Over decades, Systane has become a market leader in the artificial tears segment, known for its gel-based and liquid formulations that provide long-lasting comfort.
The brand has undergone significant corporate shifts over the years. Alcon was acquired by Nestlé in 1977 and later by the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis in 2010. However, in 2019, Alcon was spun off from Novartis to become an independent, standalone company once again. Today, Alcon Inc. is headquartered in Switzerland and is the ultimate owner of the Systane brand. While the company is Swiss-based, a significant portion of its manufacturing for products like Systane continues to take place in the United States and other global specialized facilities.
