The brand was originally developed by Alcon, a company founded in Fort Worth, Texas, USA in 1945 by pharmacists Robert Alexander and William Conner. The brand has undergone significant corporate shifts over the years. Alcon was acquired by Nestlé in 1977 and later by the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis in 2010.
