The MG ZS is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by MG Motor, a brand with deep historical roots in the United Kingdom. Originally famous for British sports cars, the MG marque transitioned through various ownerships before being acquired by the Chinese state-owned enterprise SAIC Motor. The MG ZS represents the brand's modern era, focusing on value-driven, technology-forward vehicles for a global market.
While the brand maintains a design and engineering presence in Longbridge, Birmingham, the bulk of manufacturing for the MG ZS takes place in Mainland China. To support regional sales and bypass trade tariffs, the model is also assembled in Rayong, Thailand, and at the Halol plant in India. This global production strategy has enabled the ZS to become one of the most successful exports in the current MG lineup, particularly in Europe, Oceania, and Southeast Asia.
Today, MG operates as a key subsidiary of SAIC Motor, one of the 'Big Four' state-owned car manufacturers in China. Under SAIC's stewardship, the brand has shifted its focus from niche roadsters to mass-market SUVs and electric vehicles, utilizing SAIC's massive industrial scale and advanced electric powertrain technology to compete with established global automotive giants.
